1950's

• The company Polychemie GmbH is founded with a plant in Augsburg and a subsidiary in Frankfurt/Main.
• First participation at an international construction trade fair ("Interbau" in Berlin, 1957).
• The success story starts with basically one product: PCI Emulsion, a liquid polymer mortar admixture with unique universal use for screeds.

1960's

• The original name "Poly-Chemie-Ingenieurtechnik" becomes the brand name PCI.
• Cement mortars production starts in Treviso/Italy.
• PCI starts the development of a flexible tile adhesive, resulting in the introduction of PCI Collipol, the first flexible ready-mix adhesive.

1970's

• Start of PCI tiling sales in Austria, Switzerland and Greece.
• Two production plants opened in Belgium.
• The first water-based, solvent-free, dispersion primer for gypsum- and cement-based substrates was introduced. An early example of PCI using new technologies for an environmentally-friendly and innovative product range.
• The first ready-mix tile adhesive for the UK market is developed in co-operation with BASF. Tile adhesive production starts in the UK.
• Launch of the first PCI Periplan formulation, the fore-runner of PCI's best-selling self-levelling underlayments in Europe.

1980's

• PCI tiling products introduced in the Spanish. market and tile adhesive production commences in Spain.
• First PCI products sold in Sweden, The Netherlands, Italy and Turkey.
• Production, including PCI tiling products, starts in Denmark and Istanbul/Turkey.
• A major advance: The introduction of PCI Flexmoertel, the first flexibilised, stress releasing pre-bagged tile adhesive. Setting the standards in Germany and beyond, with the product name becoming the generic name for flexibilised tile adhesives!

1990's

• Start of PCI tiling sales in France, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Iceland.
• Cement mortars production starts in France and in Chrudim/Czech Republic.
• PCI is certified according to the quality management system standard EN ISO 9001 as well as the international ecology standard EN ISO 14001 for the German plants in Augsburg, Hamm and Lutherstadt Wittenberg.
• PCI products introduced in Hong Kong and Australia.

Since 2000

• PCI celebrate their 50th anniversary.
• First PCI sales in Norway, Lithuania, Croatia, Belgium, Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates.
• Production plant starts in Moscow/Russia.
• With the takeover of Degussa Construction Chemicals by BASF AG, PCI now joins forces with BASF.
• Additional powder plants open in Angerville/France, Latina/Italy,  Moscow/Russia and Foshan/China.

Within BASF Construction Chemicals in Europe the PCI brand has embodied this principle for over 55 years, providing market leading, intelligent solutions for all professionals involved in the tiling industry.
